SIP routing in OpenSIPS


The OpenSIPS routing script is tightly connected to the working of the SIP protocol. Without understanding SIP and how SIP transposes over OpenSIPS, you will never be able to fully understand and use OpenSIPS.

This chapter aims to explain more about the relation between the routing script and SIP protocol.

Mapping SIP traffic over the routing script

Each individual route type was explained in the previous chapters in terms of what event is triggering what route, what kind of SIP message can you handle in each route type, and what SIP signaling operations you can do.

Here, we try to put everything together in a graphical way in order to see how all the OpenSIPS routes map over the SIP traffic over a simple SIP transaction (a request and its replies) going through OpenSIPS.
