Introduction to End Point Operations


End Point Operations was introduced with the release of vRealize Operations 6.1. It's not, however, a brand new capability; it's more of an evolution of an existing technology.

Prior to the availability of End Point Operations, the solution used for managing in guest operating systems and applications was vRealize Hyperic. The vRealize Hyperic solution consists of the following:

  • One or more Hyperic HQ servers

  • In-guest agent to collect metrics and properties and send them to Hyperic HQ

  • The Hyperic Management Pack in vRealize Operations to collect data from Hyperic HQ

With vRealize Operations, the Hyperic HQ servers are no longer required—the agents, now renamed End Point Operations agents, send the operating system and application metrics and properties directly to vRealize Operations.

The move of vRealize Hyperic into vRealize Operations is not yet complete, so you can still deploy vRealize Hyperic; however, if End Point Operations meets your needs, then...
