Out-of-the-box and Custom dashboards


We have covered the Object Details dashboard and you will have seen that these are not customizable at all.

The other dashboards that you will use and create are all very customizable and we will cover these in this section.

To a large extent, the dashboards that you get out-of-the-box and the ones that are installed by Solutions and Management Packs are the same as the custom dashboards you will create yourself. The only difference is that they have been created by someone else.

Anatomy of a Custom dashboard

The purpose of Custom dashboards in vRealize Operations is to visualize information about your infrastructure in ways that are intuitive, relevant, and meaningful to you. A dashboard is a relatively straightforward construct, made up of:

  • Layout: One or more columns of varying widths.

  • Widgets: These are the elements that make up the dashboard. They vary from lists of objects to more complicated widgets such as heatmaps.
