Using vRealize Infrastructure Navigator


Now that we have deployed and configured the solution, let's take a look at how the solution can be used to map applications and dependencies, and feed these into vRealize Operations.

The two key constructs that you will use, to gain insight into the applications and dependencies in your environment are:

  • Service definitions.

  • Application definitions.

Service definitions

The vRealize Infrastructure Navigator solution uses VMware Tools on Virtual Machines to discover the applications and processes that are running, and the ports through which they are communicating.

Many of the commonly used applications, such as Microsoft SQL and Apache Tomcat, have predefined Service Definitions within vRealize Infrastructure Navigator and, therefore, will be automatically discovered in your environment.
