Ports used for load balancing


We covered the ports used for inter-server communication in Chapter 2, VMware View 6.0 Security Server HA. Here, we will cover the purpose and the requirements of the ports for load balancing. Your load balancer must be configured to load balance the following ports:

  • TCP Port 80 (HTTP): This is used to serve traffic to client web browsers for issuing a redirect to HTTPS. This port doesn't have any load balancing requirements. We can close this port or direct this port to a normal web server to issue the HTTPS redirect.

  • TCP Port 443 (HTTPS): This is used by clients for communicating and downloading information from the View Security Server. Clients can use HTTPS to set up a PCoIP session or to access the initial login screen for HTML access. It also provides links to the View Client downloads hosted on http://vmware.com.
