DNS servers are essential for both virtual desktops and VMware Horizon View clients. For High Availability, we will want to deploy two or more DNS servers, and configure the clients and servers with the two DNS servers deployed. DNS servers should be kept on separate hosts. This can be accomplished by storing the VM on local disk or with DRS anti-affinity rules. DNS can often be deployed on the same server, that is, our domain controller. Only the largest environments will have to split the two up for performance reasons. There are several types of DNS servers available that can be used, but the best practice is to use Microsoft DNS servers integrated into our Active Directory environment.
