Monitoring is critical to the performance of your VDI deployment. Even if you don't have performance issues at the start, you should put together a list of metrics and a methodology for monitoring those metrics. A baseline measurement should be taken to give you an idea of how VDI looks when it is running smoothly with plenty of breathing room. You will then know when performance issues start to develop and you can get out in front of them. In this chapter, you learned about many different methods for monitoring XenDesktop.
To briefly summarize the steps required to monitor a XenDesktop site, you can use the following:
Complete the XenDesktop deployment
Build and test with a load simulator such as Login VSI
Monitor and interpret the results
Tweak and tune the environment
Ongoing measurement to identify performance issues
In the next chapter we will discuss the concepts of accelerating the XenDesktop infrastructure.
