The first step in this process is to determine what metrics are important to you. Keep in mind that the approach outlined here is my own way of tackling this. As a cloud operator, you may have a different way in which you wish to handle this. Use this as a springboard to get you started.
From my experience, it is better to pull together user, tenant, network, and volume metrics; then take all that data, combine it together and output total cloud utilization metrics. This is very similar to what the Horizon dashboard does. While it is easy to log into Horizon and do a quick review, what if you wanted to provide a comprehensive report to your leadership? Or maybe you wanted to take a point-in-time snapshot to compare cloud utilization over a time period. There may be a possible requirement to audit your cloud one day.
