HCIBench is a tool from VMware that is designed to test the performance of vSAN datastores, but it can also be used to test the performance of non-vSAN datastores. You can use this tool to benchmark your existing storage performance or use it when evaluating a new storage platform. There are two components to HCIBench: the controller VM and the Vdbench guest VM(s). The controller VM is an appliance that deploys the guest VMs, runs the tests, and collects the results. The Vdbench guests provide the I/O traffic to the storage.
To step through this recipe, you will need at least one ESXi Server, an instance of installed vCenter Server, and vSphere Web Client. You will also need one IP address for the controller and one IP address for each guest. No other prerequisites are required.
