Setting up the remote poller system


As mentioned earlier, the remote poller is essentially a full Cacti system. Hence, your initial task is to install a new Cacti system on the new server.

Time for action – setting up the remote poller system

The following steps will prepare a new remote poller server:

  1. Follow the installation guide from Chapter 1, Installing Cacti but skip the web-based installation.
  2. Now you have to add the remote poller specific settings. Edit the spine configuration file in vi editor:
vi /etc/spine.conf
  1. Change the RDB_ variables to match the database settings of your master server:
  1. Now, edit the include/config.php file and change the rdatabase variables accordingly:
