Preparing the end user for Office 365


There are two primary ways to deploy updates to the end users, in preparation for Office 365. Those two ways include:

  • End user self-deployment

  • Distribution from a software deployment service

End user self-deployment

In the end user self-deployment method, the end user navigates to the Office 365 portal and runs the Office 365 Desktop Setup:

  1. To simplify the process, you would provide your users with the URL (https://portal.microsoftonline.com/download) that takes them directly to the Downloads page. The user will have to log on with their Active Directory account, as the Portal will now be using ADFS for all user accounts that were synchronized to Office 365. Please note that local admin privileges will be required to run the desktop setup.

  2. Once the users enter this page, they will be able to see what is available for installation. If you have not altered the user's licenses, prior to the user navigating to this link, the user will see only the Office 365 setup...
