In this chapter, we will get familiar with the role of OpenDaylight and OPNFV in the Network Function Virtualization (NFV) ecosystem. We will also cover how OpenDaylight forces traffic to go through specific network functions, such as firewalls and load balancers.
Additionally, we will go through NFV basics and the existing OPNFV projects. We will discuss service chaining as well, which is one of the main use cases of SDN and OpenDaylight. And we will end this chapter by going through two real-life examples of NFV and service chaining.
Specifically, we will cover the following topics:
- NFV categories
- OPNFV projects
- Service chaining using OpenDaylight
- Examples of forcing traffic to go through a firewall and load balancer
- Example of a network traffic broker and packet capturing
