The Hello application implemented as an exercise for this chapter is very similar to the one we used in Chapter 4, Instrumentation Basics with OpenTracing. However, since we already have a lot of moving components with Kubernetes, I decided to simplify the setup and dropped the bigbrother
service, so that we would not need to run a MySQL database. The bigbrother
service was a bit creepy anyway: it knew too much personal information. Instead, I added some logic to the formatter
service that gives a bit of conversation to the greeting when given the person's name:
