Creating a VPC

In this section, we are going to create a VPC from scratch without using a wizard. This will allow us to customize every step of the creation process. The creation of the VPC is dependent on all other VPC components.

Execute the following steps to create a VPC:

  1. From within the AWS Management Console, select the VPC service form within the Networking and Content Delivery category.
  2. Select Your VPCs from the menu on the left and then select the blue Create VPC button:

  1. When prompted, enter the following VPC configuration details and then click the blue Create button:

  1. Acknowledge the confirmation of the VPC creation by selecting Close. Your VPC has now been created.

You may notice that under both the Route Tables and Network ACLs menus, a new entry exists. This is the default main route table for your new VPC and the default NACL.

Now we have our VPC in place, we can now create our VPC subnets – both public and private.
