Step 2 – adding rules and rule groups

In this section, we are going to focus on rules and rule groups for the web ACL:

As you can see, there are three different sections here. Firstly, the rules themselves. To add a rule, do the following:

  1. Select Add rules

This will give you two options:

    • Add managed rule groups: Selecting this option allows you to select pre-built rule groups with preconfigured rules.
    • Add my own rules and rule groups: This option allows you to build your own rules and rule groups.
  1. For the sake of this demonstration, select Add managed rule groups. This will provide you with a list of managed rule groups. The AWS managed rule groups are free to use; all other options are available through AWS Marketplace at a cost:

  1. Select AWS managed rule groups. This will provide you with a list of managed rule groups – far more than you see here in this screenshot:

  1. Scroll down the list and select the Add to web ACL button for the following rule...
