Retrieving a record with CDS

CDS is an application-level suite of actions designed to obtain a record or list of records from an entity. It can also be used to create or update records within the entity.

As CDS operates as a web service, not a direct link to the underlying database used by the web system, any validation that is present at the application level will be applied to the CDS action. Data requests will be screened in much the same way as searching for a particular record within the CRM environment. For this reason, you need to decide whether it is the appropriate choice for you to use.

Pros and cons

There are many reasons to see CDS (later referenced as the Microsoft Dataverse) as superior to Dynamics 365 connections, which have now been deprecated. Reasons for this include the following:
