Summary

In this chapter, we looked at a wide range of AWS compute solutions, starting with their flagship solution, Amazon EC2. We discussed AMIs, which are machine images that contain the base operating system, any applications and the state of patches, and updates that are used to launch your EC2 instance as a fully-fledged server. AMIs are made available via the Quick Start AMIs, Community, and Marketplace, and you can also create your own AMIs based on your corporate requirements.

We examine the different EC2 instance types and families and how an instance type is effectively a description of associated hardware and software specifications that your EC2 instance offers. We also looked at storage options for your EC2 instance, with EBS, EFS, and FSx as possible solutions.
