Getting to know about networking services

GCP networking is based on Software-Defined Networks (SDNs), which allow users to deliver all networking services programmatically. All of the services are fully managed, leaving users with the task of configuring them according to their requirements. The networking services that we will be looking at are as follows:

  • Virtual Private Cloud (VPC): The VPC is the foundation of GCP networking. Projects can contain multiple VPC networks. Unless you create an organizational policy that prohibits it, new projects start with a default network (an auto mode VPC network) that has one subnetwork (subnet) in each region. You can think of it as a cloud version of a physical network. Each VPC network can contain one or more regional subnets. A VPC creates a global logical boundary that allows communication between resources within the same VPC network, subject to applicable network firewall rules.
