Summary

In this chapter, you learned a lot about Power BI datasets, including the fact that when you publish a report to Power BI, the service splits the report into two artifacts, the report and the dataset.

Once you publish your report and dataset to the Power BI service, the data in the dataset should be kept up to date. Though you could just import the data into Power BI Desktop and republish it, you learned a much better way, which is scheduling a refresh. If your data is on-premises, you need to use an on-premises data gateway for that data refresh. The on-premises data gateway allows you to synchronize data between your on-premises data sources and your Power BI datasets.

You also learned about a very important topic, how to enforce the row-level security you built into your data model in Powe BI Desktop. Using AAD, row-level security allows you to assign DAX filters to users or groups so they only see the data that they are supposed to see.

Sharing datasets allows...
