Understanding NAS backup and what's new in version 10

With the release of Veeam Backup & Replication version 10, the ability for users to protect a variety of NAS file shares was added. NAS can share data for many users on a network, from SMB to Enterprise. File shares come in a variety of setups:

  • SMB v1, 2, and 3
  • NFS v3, 4.1
  • Windows File Server
  • Linux File Server
  • Enterprise NAS – Dell EMC Isilon, vSAN File Services
  • NetApp – Storage Filer

Veeam Backup & Replication also uses changed file tracking, allowing speedy incremental backups. It is snapshot-friendly, allowing the orchestration of backups from snapshots created on an Enterprise-grade NAS device:
