Summary

This chapter reviewed NAS backups and what it takes to back them up. We took a look at what NAS stands for – Network Attached Storage – and how users connect to file shares, those being NFS, SMB (CIFS), or the use of file servers. We covered how to add a file share to the Veeam Backup & Replication console based on the type. Also covered was how to create backup jobs to then back up your file shares. We also took a look into optimizations as well as how you go about restoring your NAS backups.

Hopefully, you will have a better idea of what NAS backups are all about as the next chapter, Chapter 4, Scale-Out Repositories and Object Storage – New Copy Policy, will take a deep dive into the more advanced repository features.
