Conclusion
As we mentioned in the introduction to this chapter, Rome wasn’t built in a single day; neither will your analytic capabilities be attained so quickly. That said, we have personally seen hundreds of companies begin their analytic journeys and gradually make significant progress toward greater competitive advantage. Of course, those journeys were not without their fair share of stumbles along the way. In our experience, success typically comes to those projects that have solid support from the top, that have marshaled the necessary resources, and that have done the required groundwork to prepare the organization for the upcoming changes. In Chapter 6, we discuss the typical problems that tend to derail these types of projects, and we provide advice for avoiding the common pitfalls.
