It helps in understanding business requirements to design and implement a database to meet the requirements. The process involves, typically, generating conceptual, logical, and physical schemas or data models. Understanding the requirements and translating them to a good database design is critical to the implementation of a secure and scalable system. The data models capture a lot of information, which includes the business entities involved, their attributes, the rules (also known as constraints) applicable to the entities and attributes, the relationships between the entities, and so on.
