Charting options


In this chapter, we will go through various charting options Excel has to offer. Pay close attention as this section will help you polish your charts and make them look exactly how you need them to look. The previous section was not meant to create perfect looking charts but to quickly create a chart to gather insights about your data. This section assumes that you are in the presentation stage of the data analysis life cycle, and your goal is to create the best chart to convey a particular message to your audience. The following steps will show you how to create a chart that represents the number of defects that occurred over time for an imaginary company.

  1. Select and delete the line chart we just finished creating. Rebuild the bar chart and click on the chart title.

    This is the title of your chart and it is currently labeled as Amount. Excel used the name of the column and placed it in the title section as the default value. Let's change it to Factory Defects.
