Parameters

Parameter Creation

Tableau’s parameters are essentially single-value variables that can be updated by the user to increase interactivity. An example of a parameter would be creating a percentage parameter that enables the user to select a value between 0% and 100%. The parameter could then be used in a calculated field to create a targeted percentage growth value for next year’s sales, based on the current year’s sales and a user-input percentage growth. This would then allow the end user to play with the parameter and see the impact of different percentage growth targets.
