IMAGE PROMPTS & MASKING

In Chapter 3, we looked at how to create an effective text prompt, but with many AI art software options, it's also possible to incorporate images as part of the prompt. This approach is useful when you want to riff on an existing image or align the output with a particular style. However, it's essential to remember that the AI won't use your image input as a base layer to edit or photoshop it. Although you can adjust the image weighting parameter to help the model capture the visuals of the input image(s), the image is used as a prompt, not as a canvas to edit.

If you wish to upload and edit an existing image, DALL-E lets you do this via a different technique, which we will cover later in this chapter. For now, let’s look at how to use images as a prompt with Midjourney.

Demonstration

Within Midjourney, you can upload one or more image URLs and include them in your prompt, which Midjourney will then use as visual inspiration...
