Time for action – creating your first dashboard with PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer


After creating the BI site collection, it is the time to create dashboards with Dashboard Designer. In this example, we will see how we can open Dashboard Designer, which is the designer tool for PerformancePoint. Then, we will connect to an analysis service cube. After that, we will create a very simple dashboard from measures and dimensions.

For this example, you need to have AdventureWorksDW2012MultiDimensional-EE installed. For a description on how to install this SSAS database, refer to the Preface of this book. Perform the following steps to create a dashboard:

  1. In the BI site, go to Site Contents, which is a link on the left-hand site of the BI site's first page.

  2. Select the PerformancePoint Content folder and then click on New Item.

  3. An application will be launched (for the first time, it may take longer). You will then see that Dashboard Designer is open, as shown in the following screenshot:
