Time for action – installing Excel Add-in


In this example, you will learn how to install the Excel Add-in. The important step to take before this is to have the MDS WebUI up and running (which is explained in the previous example).

  1. Go to http://localhost/MDS and open the MDS WebUI.

  2. Click on Install Master Data Services Add-in for Microsoft Excel, which is shown in the following screenshot:

  3. You will be redirected to another URL. Pick the download link that meets the 32- or 64-bit version of Office installed on your machine. Install the Add-in after downloading it.

  4. Open an Excel spreadsheet. You will see a new tab named Master Data, as shown in the following screenshot. Under that tab, you will see the icon set tools for Master Data Services.

  5. Click on the Connect icon and create a new connection. Enter a description; then set the MDS Server address as http://localhost/MDS.

  6. Test the connection, and connect. You will see an explorer pane on the right-hand side of the Excel window, named Master Data...
