Phew, we got through our second non-Gang of Four approved pattern – I hope it flipped your data mindset on its head as much as it did mine! Remember, the Type Object pattern works best when you have mountainous hierarchies that describe different data representations of the same object – super strong fire dragons are still dragon-type monsters; everything else is a data decision.
With just two classes, a type object and a Typed Object, we can create endless configurations by changing (and inheriting) shared data. This pattern works especially well with the drag-and-drop functionality of ScriptableObjects, which you should take full advantage of in your teams; putting creativity and testing powers into the hands of your designers is not only efficient, but it also leaves the door wide open for emergent design (Google it, I promise it’s worth it).
