Preface

Time for action - adding the belt


  1. 1. Load the creature character and make sure symmetry is active.

  2. 2. Hold Ctrl and drag on the canvas to clear previous masking.

  3. 3. Divide the mesh one more time with Smt active.

  4. 4. Hold Ctrl and paint a mask around the hips, where the belt will be.

  5. 5. Clean up the mask, if necessary, by pressing Ctrl + Alt. With the Flat Color material applied, the mask would now look like this:

  6. 6. Open the SubTool subpalette and scroll down to the bottom. There we can find a big button labeled Extract, as shown in the next image:

  7. 7. Leave the Edge Smoothness (E Smt) at 5, set the Surface Smoothness (S Smt) to 100, and Thick to 0.8. Depending on the size of your model, you may want to alter the thickness a bit.

  8. 8. Click on Extract and see the magic happen. This will extract the belt from the masking and add it as a new subtool to the list.

  9. 9. If the belt is too thin or too thick, just hide the belt, adjust the thickness, and click on Extract again.
