Time for action - finishing the sculpt


  1. 1. We'll now repeat this process over and over again. Pushing it as far as we can and then adding a new subdivision level.

  2. 2. The next screenshot shows the models at their respective subdivision levels, before stepping up to the next one:

  3. 3. Around Subdivision Level 5, there are enough polygons to start defining the structure of the bark. I did the bark basically with only two brushes — the Clay Tubes and the Slash3 brush.

  4. 4. The Slash3 brush, as its name says, slashes into the surface like a knife. This results in narrow, but deep cuts, which is ideal for our bark. By default, the Slash3 brush has the Lazy Mouse feature turned on. This can be found under Stroke | LazyMouse and averages out your strokes, to make them more rounded and even.

  5. 5. This is quite useful for ornaments, but for our bark, we need shaky broken lines, so let's turn it off by pressing L. The next screenshot shows the Slash3 brush with LazyMouse turned on and off: (LazyRadius at...
