Creating a terrain with texture mapping


In most of the modern outdoor games, such as Delta Force and Crysis, you will see the trees, rivers, mountains, and so on, all of which are dedicated to simulating the real world, as the game developer hopes to bring a realistic environment when you are playing. In order to achieve this aim, a key technique called Terrain Rendering is used. In the following recipe, you will learn how to use this technique in your game.

Getting ready

In this recipe, we will build the terrain model based on height map. In computer graphics, a heightmap or heightfield is a raster image used to store values, such as surface elevation data.
