Playing animations without CryMannequin


While CryMannequin will be the main system to select and play animations on your player and AI characters, there are other systems that you can use. This section will introduce what these are and which system to use for what purpose.

TrackView

The CryENGINE Sandbox Editor includes a tool called TrackView. This is a timeline tool that is commonly used to create full-blown cutscenes, but it can also be used for scripted sequences during gameplay.

It can be used to play animations on characters as well, and it offers access to several features of the animation system. It can play facial sequences as well (refer to Chapter 4, Morphs and Bones – Creating a Facial Setup for Your Character, for more information on this).

Multiple TrackView sequences can be active at the same time, and the player character doesn't need to be disabled. This means you can use a TrackView sequence to animate characters and objects in the background complete with particles, sounds...
