Particle effects


CryENGINE ships with an extremely powerful and flexible particle system. The integrated particle editor allows you to create new particle effects and review and tweak them in real time. Not only is the particle system in CryENGINE easy to use, it also provides you with state-of-the-art rendering features, such as soft particles, particle shadows, and realistic particle lighting.

Working with particle effects in CryENGINE

Particle effects in CryENGINE are basically normal entities and can also be used as such. They can be added to flowgraphs, customized with Lua scripts, and be linked and spawned like regular entities. The actual particle emitter and its settings are stored inside an XML data structure, which is referenced by the entity. The behavior and visuals of the particle emitter are set up and customized using the CryENGINE particle editor, which is a part of the Sandbox toolkit.
