Roughing out the shape of sculpted hair

Now that we have an extracted scalp mesh, we can use it to create the basic hair shape. This can be thought of as the planning phase of sculpting the hair. We will not be sculpting individual strands of hair or adding any small details yet. We must first define the volume, parting lines, and general flow of the hair. An important aspect of the planning phase is to visualize how the hair contributes to the character's silhouette, so we recommend following the instructions in the Visualizing the silhouette of sculpted hair section of this chapter.

In this section, we will use our sculpting tools to rough out the shape of the hair so that we can visualize the way the hair will look on the character before adding details.
