Summary

The creation of a good board game can teach you many important things. This is a skill which is very useful in game development. You begin to feel the connections between all the elements. And most importantly, you start to understand the right balance of the gameplay and the factors influencing it. There is a great space for improvisation and creativity. Remember that every video game is at heart a board game. That is why it is good practice to develop a board version of your future digital project to test its gameplay and balance. The main advantage of such a model is an opportunity to change the rules and behavior of elements quickly, on the fly since it is a great way to prototype a game's conception.

In the next chapter, you will learn how to plan and develop ideas for puzzle games. You will see how the same concept can evolve from a simple game to a title with some RPG mechanics.
