Summary

As you can see, puzzle mechanics is a very flexible thing. It is like clay in the hands of a sculptor and can take various forms. You may start with a very basic prototype and turn it into something special and creative. It is important when a puzzle is mixed with other genres, which makes it more intelligent and tricky; even modern 3D shooter games often use puzzles as mini side games, which open doors or start a device. Recall the Bioshock game from Irrational games, where the process of hacking is based on a mini puzzle game very similar to Pipe mania. It is very useful and interesting to design puzzles; audiences like them very much, and you only need to develop something really intriguing and beautiful.

In the next chapter, we will try to mix the match-three mechanics with some dynamic and plot-driven gameplays; it will be implemented into a platform game based on an interesting story and will have a cute protagonist.
