Equipped with our four brushes, Standard, Move, Smooth, and Inflat, we'll now shape our tree.
At this early stage, our job is to establish the right form and silhouette. For this old and spooky tree we're looking for a kind of broken shape with a lot of contrast in form, like roots normally have, changing their direction often. Viewed from the left, the branches also form some kind of claw.
1. In the Transform palette, you can find two useful options, Local Transformations and Rotate On Y Axis. Turn on both, as shown in the next screenshot:
2. The ZSpheres gave us quite a good volume to begin with but a too rounded shape. Use the Move brush to transform the rounded shape into an old and crooked one, as shown in the next image:
We've just established the rough form of our tree, which is a crucial step in the modeling process.
