Communicating through social networks


There will be a time in a course where students need to approach tutors for advice and support regarding the subject matter of the course or any technical or administrative queries they may have. It is important that there are clear and appropriate channels for such support.

While real-time chat rooms can be used on a weekly basis as a valuable place for support, a more informal and ad-hoc support channel is also needed. Most students are already connecting on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. It makes sense to "go to where the fish are" and open up the channel of communication with them on those networks. Many social networks produce widgets that you can add to your own site.
