Summary

In this chapter, you have learned all the basics you need to create artistic visual styles using GIMP. You have learned how to use layers to build up a composite image from SketchUp output and how to use filters to modify SketchUp's native styles. You created and edited layer masks to avoid erasing original image data. You finally used the Dennis Technique to produce fast sketchy watercolor art and the Richard Technique to create eerily realistic pencil art.

These methods will become the staple of your visual output, simply because they're quick and easy to achieve, yet the client can be seriously impressed with it. These styles are sketchy and loose, ideally suited for presenting early design concepts. In the next chapter, you can take your designs further and produce photorealistic visuals.
