Beta testing

Beta-testing your course is an important process, through which you can assess your progress, test your work, identify gaps and errors, and simulate the student experience. The phases of the beta testing process include the following:

  • Planning: Define your objectives and determine the schedule for testing.

  • Recruiting: Determine the number of beta testers you need, estimate how much time you think they will need, and establish a deadline by when feedback needs to be received.

  • Assigning roles: Define the roles and responsibilities you expect from your beta testers. Likewise, indicate the limits of their involvement to define boundaries.

  • Accessing your course: Decide whether beta testers can access your entire course immediately, or whether they should be limited to specific sections and subsections.

  • Collecting feedback: Identify the way for beta testers to deliver feedback. Create the forms, processes, and procedures for them to follow, and identify the tools for them to use.
