Chapter 7. Bluetooth Low Energy Controller

Bluetooth technology is one of the most common standards for electronic products communicating within short-range distances. Its data exchange uses a short wavelength, and it falls within the Instrument Scientific Medical (ISM) band from 2.4 to 2.485 GHz. It's a wireless technology standard that was invented in 1994 by telecom vendor Ericsson and was designed as an alternative to RS2322 serial cables. Bluetooth technology can connect a multitude of devices and eliminates the problems of communication synchronization exhibited by the RS232 technology.

Tip

RS232 and serial are the technical words used interchangeably in the field of electronic communications.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standardized Bluetooth as IEEE 802.15.1 but has also released engineering responsibilities to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) organization. The next evolution of the wireless technology is documented in the Bluetooth version...
