Time for action – creating and using an administrative monitor role


This is a very easy role to create and provides the user with extensive monitoring capabilities. We will outline two different methods of assigning this role. One will grant view-only access to all courses on the site and the other will grant the same access to all courses within one category. To set up and assign the role, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your site as admin and click on the Define roles link found by clicking on Users and then Permissions from inside the Site Administration block, as explained earlier in this chapter.

  2. Click on the Add a new role button to start the creation process and enter a Name, Short name, and Description, as shown in the following screenshot:

  3. Scroll down the Permissions list to the Course heading and change the View courses setting (shown in the following screenshot) to Allow.
