Moodle already includes some numeric scales and one example non-numeric scale, but we will create our own.
Select the Site administration tree from the Settings block.
Click on Grades to expand the options available there. You will see Outcomes there, but for now, we will focus on Scales.
Click on Scales. This will bring up the scales management page.
There are two lists, namely, Custom scales and Standard scales.
Click on Add a new scale. As you can see, a scale has a name, the scale information, and a description. You will see that the Standard scale option is ticked and cannot be edited. This is because we are adding a scale at the site level for use throughout Moodle.
Fill in the Name as knowledge proficiency.
In the Scale text box, fill in the following words separated by a comma: basic, proficient, advanced. It is important to get the syntax correct or else it will not work. It is also important to list the possible grades from the lowest to highest value...
