Time for action — creating a self-marking gap-fill exercise


Let's re-equip the rivers and continents exercise and create a self-marking, gap-fill exercise.

  1. 1. Click on the JCloze Potato.

  2. 2. Give your gap-fill exercise a name by entering it in the Title box. In the window that pops up, type (or copy-and-paste) the passage in which you want to have gaps.

  3. 3. Select a word that you want blanked out, and click on Gap at the bottom of the screen.

  4. 4. If you wanted, you could add a clue and alternative correct answers for the gapped word, as shown in the following screenshot. If you aren't bothered about children's spelling, add alternative spellings, or if your word is a number, add it as digits here too:

  5. 5. Click on OK to go back to the main screen.

  6. 6. Repeat this for as many blanks or gaps as you want.

  7. 7. Go to the configuration screen and personalize your exercise, as we did for the JMatch exercise.
