Best practices for online meetings


When you are working with a screen sharing session, one of the main things to remember is that your network speed, or "bandwidth", will make a big difference in how fast things appear to happen on your screen. While you may not be able to control the amount of bandwidth that you have available, you can control the quality of the images being displayed. The lower you set the quality of the images, the faster the screen will refresh and update.

When you're in a meeting, use the menu command File | Preferences. Selecting this option will display the setting for performance in the Screen Sharing tab.

Selecting Optimize for Performance will force the system to generate images that are using 8-bit coloring. This means that the colors in the images may not be as clear, sharp, or accurate as the original colors being shown on the screen. Conversely, the screen will be able to update much faster as there is not as much color information traveling over the network...
