Get emotional with emoticons


As mentioned earlier, it's hard to convey emotion with simple text. You may mean something as a joke, but without body language and verbal clues, your reader may have no way of telling that was the case. Another feature of Sametime that lets you add in some of those textual clues is the use of emoticons.

Emoticons, or "emotion icons" are normally text-based characters that, when used together, stand for a certain emotion. So if you put a colon and a right parenthesis together, it looks like a sideways happy face :). A wink is a semi-colon and a right parenthesis where the lower part of the semi-colon looks like a winking eye ;).

Sametime takes emoticons one step further by substituting animated graphics for those common emoticons. For instance, if you type the happy face icon, Sametime will replace it with a happy face animated graphic.
