Summary


Performance evaluation is not an exact science and by nature it is subjective. As such, it will continue to deal with inaccuracies and bad evaluation. However, performance evaluation is essential for talent management in the organization. Top talent needs to be recognized formally and rewarded accordingly. A differentiation must be created between good performers and otherwise.

The solid performance evaluation system is a must for any organization today. In India, most organizations inherit the systems that are in place in the parent organization, somewhere in the United States or Europe or East Asia. These systems need to be tuned to the requirements of the Indian organization. Also, a strong system needs to be supported with training and awareness, so all employees can leverage it effectively.
