Installing a TURN Server


The TURN Server is used as a reflector service for audio and video traffic generated by the Media Manager and destined for clients on a different network. If you want to enable audio or video chats or meetings outside your organization or across sites, you will need a TURN Server.

The install files for the TURN Server are not available as an independent download but are part of the Sametime Media Manager download. Once the Media Manager files are extracted into a directory, the TURN Server files are found in a subdirectory called TURN. There is no install process for the TURN Server itself but the files must be copied to a server, modified, and run from that location. The TURN Server files comprise a batch file, which runs the program (run.bat for Windows or run.sh for Unix), as well as a properties file that defines the TURN Server customizable settings (TurnServer.properties) as shown in the following screenshot:
