Features of Sametime Gateway


The primary reason for installing a Sametime Gateway is to expand your instant messaging community beyond your own Sametime environment. The Gateway allows your users to connect to other Sametime communities as well as to external contacts on AOL, Google, and XMPP networks. Communication with external contacts for project or sales-related activities can be an important feature your company or organization may want to consider.

Once the Gateway is set up and connected to the Sametime Community Server in your Sametime environment, Sametime clients will see another option for adding contacts: Add external user by E-mail address. Once they choose that option, they can enter the person's external e-mail address and choose an external messaging provider in order to add them to their contact list.
